Prophetic Footsteps TheCaravanالقافلة

Travel with the ummah, after him

The Caravan is the Islamic history side of Prophetic Footsteps, an initiative of How to Muslim. Where the seerah walks with the Prophet ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah, The Caravan follows the ummah after him: from the Rashidun to today.

One brand, three roads

Walk, travel, play

Prophetic Footsteps has two homes and a game. They share one design and link to each other at every turn.

The idea

It all comes back to sand

The desert he walked, the trade routes the ummah travelled, and the sand in an hourglass. Three meanings of one grain.

Footsteps

The seerah: the desert sand the Prophet ﷺ walked, from Makkah to Madinah.

The caravan

History: the trade routes and Silk Road sand the ummah travelled after him. Camels only, never riders.

The hourglass

Time: the centuries running through the glass, from 632 to the present day.

How we write

Short, sourced, respectful

Content is added gradually from books and lectures. Until a chapter is ready, its page says so plainly.

  1. No pictures of peopleNo prophets, companions or historical figures are drawn. Emblems, landscapes, maps and architecture tell the story.
  2. Dates you can trustMainstream dates only, with “c.” where they are approximate, and Hijri years from 622 CE onward.
  3. Short and sourcedOne clear page at a time, each pointing back to where it came from.
  4. Fair to every ageTriumphs and trials are told plainly, with the honour due to the Companions and the scholars.

The road is being written

The first station, the Rightly Guided Caliphs, is open as a template, and the first Rihla is ready to play. More eras follow.
